Planning software for the design and engineering of wastewater treatment plants
AQUA DESIGNER is the planning software for the dimensioning of all treatment stages of a wastewater treatment plant, from pre-treatment to biology and sludge treatment. You can choose from the usual practical variants in terms of design approach, process and construction. Planning is supported by many additional functions.
As a result, AQUA DESIGNER provides comprehensive documentation for the approvable design with structures, machines, operating costs and true-to-scale drawings, as well as detailed information on load cases, oxygen yield value, sink line, pipework or mass and buoyancy calculations.
AQUA DESIGNER is used worldwide for the planning of new plants and for the expansion and modernisation of existing wastewater treatment plants. The application is available in many different languages.
We offer AQUA DESIGNER at a special price for universities, colleges or other educational establishments.
Please let us know the number of licences you require and we will be happy to make you an offer.

Dimensioning with AQUA DESIGNER
With AQUA DESIGNER you can dimension all treatment stages of a wastewater treatment plant, from pre-treatment to biology and sludge treatment - with the dimensioning approaches, processes and designs commonly used in practice.
Planning the Sewage Treatment Plant
A Flow chart guides you through the complete dimensioning of your wastewater treatment plant project with AQUA DESIGNER.
Here too, different variants can be calculated for the secondary clarifiers:
vertical or horizontal flow
round or rectangular pools
basin with flat bottom or hopper tank
Horizontal Flow Secondary Sedimentation
The calculation form for horizontal flow secondary sedimentation shows the connection between dimensioning and structural and technical design. When you define your structure after determining the minimum parameters, the design values are automatically adjusted to the dimensions actually selected. The center inflow building is also calculated for your selection. For all structural calculations, you are supported by true scale drawings.
Cleaning Process
The calculation of the biological stage offers many variants:
Aeration is the heart of every biological treatment. The design for Different load cases and the selection of the appropriate blowers, mixers and aerators is therefore possible in AQUA DESIGNER in great detail. Machines and aerators can be selected from Databanks . The Arrangement of the aerators and agitators in the tank is graphically supported.
Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR)
Just like the continuous activated sludge process, the sequencing batch reactor or SBR process can also be calculated on the basis of DWA-M 210. Here, too, the dimensioning is followed by the transfer to the structural and mechanical design.
The cycle can be defined in detail separately for dry weather and rainy weather phases. Based on the Sink curves you can see how the sludge level relates to the water level.
MBR Process
The MBR method can be calculated on the basis of DWA-M 227. Here too, Databanks for membranes, aerators, pumps and mixers are available.
Sludge Treatment
With AQUA DESIGNER you can dimension all treatment stages including sludge treatment in accordance with DWA-M 368.
Dimensioning of primary clarifier and static thickener
Digestion stage with gas, electricity and heat production
Load and volume balances for turbid water and solids
Consideration of internal cycles
Income from the utilisation of digester gas in accordance with the EEG
Compact Systems
Even smaller systems, e.g. Compact Systems can be calculated very well with AQUA DESIGNER. The automatically generated true scale drawing is very useful to get an idea of the dimensions and proportions. The scale drawing can also be used to recognise whether the equipment. fits well into the building.
AQUA DESIGNER - Further Tools
AQUA DESIGNER offers numerous other functions in addition to pure dimensioning. You receive detailed reports, lists of machines and measuring points, as well as the calculation of operating costs. You can select characteristic data for blowers, agitators, etc. from databases and are supported in the design by true-to-scale drawings. Optionally, you can use an additional module to create a flow diagram of the wastewater treatment plant and export it for further processing.
Reports
You will receive a detailed and clear documentation of the calculations as a printout. The calculation formulae are shown so that the calculation process is comprehensible. Detailed information such as Load cases, oxygen yield value, sink line, mass and buoyancy calculation, and the Statement of operating costs for the individual cleaning stages can be found in the printout. The reports provide a large part of the documents for the approval planning.
Machines and Measurements
On the basis of your assessment, a List of machines and measuring devices is generated as an Excel List - naturally with the machine data, you have selected from the databases.
The machines and measurements in the list are connected to the Flow Diagram by a numbering system.
Flow Diagram
You can create a flow diagram for the water path and the sludge path. The equipment labelling from the flow diagram corresponds to the labelling in the machine list.
The flow diagram can be exported as graphic, dwg or dxf and thus be further processed in the planning project.
Operating Costs
As the dimensioning is very detailed and practical and a lot of data is taken from databases, the operating costs can also be calculated quite accurately. The Electricity costs, sludge production, precipitant requirements, electricity and heat production are calculated and summarised in a detailed document.
Oxygen Yield Value
The oxygen yield value is a measure of the efficiency of the aeration system. It is calculated by using the machine data from the databases and the aeration characteristics.
True Scale Drawings
In AQUA DESIGNER you define the Chamber dimensions. In Parameter Windows you can also specify wall and base thicknesses and other chamber construction details. This information is used to create the true scale drawings of the buildings and partly also of the contained equipment. In the drawing above you can see a true scaled plan view of an MBR plant, consisting of the upstream denitrification and the membrane tank.
Buoyancy Calculation
Once the dimensions of the structure are known, the next logical step is to calculate the excavation and concrete masses and calculate the buoyancy.
Individual Parameterisation
Planning projects are never the same and no two wastewater treatment plants look the same. You can vary the design by entering or specifying various constants, concentrations, safety, fluctuation and peak factors or the precipitant density.
Help and AQUA DESIGNER Manual
AQUA DESIGNER contains an extensive help function which, in addition to the operation of the software, offers a comprehensive Theoretical and practical support for system planning .
