Improving the purification performance of the Zahmen wastewater treatment plant
Since its construction, the Zahmen wastewater treatment plant in the municipality of Grebenhain has had problems with the function of the secondary clarifier. Here, the sludge level rose significantly to critical levels when the mixed water inflow began and continued.
The wastewater treatment plant was analysed, recalculated and evaluated by BITControl. The following measures were implemented to improve the treatment performance:
- A new, larger inlet cylinder with inlet pipe was installed in the secondary clarifier
- A partition wall was installed in the RLS shaft in order to be able to control the two secondary clarifiers separately. A bypass pipe was also installed to improve the operating point of the pumps.
- At the same time, parts of the EI&C technology were renewed or supplemented: switchgear, sludge level measurement, automation technology
The return sludge control was converted to sludge level control.
