For the first time in the 2018 financial year, BITControl calculated the CO2 emissions from the journeys and flights required for operational purposes and from heat generation for the office building. Electricity consumption is not considered, as BITControl has a large PV system with battery storage and even feeds renewable energy into the grid over the course of the year.
The total CO2 emissions in 2018 were around 30 tonnes, the proportion of car journeys was just over 60 %. After researching on the internet, we decided to offset with atmosfair, which only supports projects in accordance with the rules of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and also the established "Gold Standard". atmosfair calculates offsetting costs of €23 per tonne of CO2, we donated €33 per tonne.
