For the 2019 and 2020 financial years, BITControl also calculated the CO2 emissions from the journeys and flights required for operational purposes and from heat generation (oil heating) for the office building. Electricity consumption is not considered, as BITControl has a PV system with battery storage, purchases green electricity and even feeds renewable energy into the grid over the course of the year.
Total CO2 emissions fell from 30 tonnes to around 25 tonnes and 24 tonnes in 2019 and 2020 respectively. After researching on the internet, we again decided in favour of offsetting with atmosfair, which only supports projects in accordance with the rules of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and also in accordance with the established "Gold Standard". atmosfair calculates offsetting costs of €23/t CO2. BITControl has opted for a contribution of €80 per tonne because this is closer to the actual costs.
